Excursions

SPLIT
Split is the largest and most important city in Dalmatia, the administrative center of Croatia's Split-Dalmatia County. It is situated on a small peninsula on the central Adriatic coast, and just 50km from Baska Voda.
The first inhabitant of Split was the Roman emperior Diocletian who started to build his palace in the picturesque bay around 293 AD. At the very entrance to the city there are ruins of the ancient Salona, once the capital of the Roman province Dalmatia and the biggest archaeological locality on the eastern Adriatic coast.
Ever since the life of the city protected by the UNESCO and entered into the register of the World Cultural Heritage has been writing the history of this unique capital of Dalmatia.

DUBROVNIK
The 'Pearl of the Adriatic', situated 150km southly on the Dalmatian coast, became an important Mediterranean sea power from the 13th century onwards. Although damaged by an earthquake in 1667, Dubrovnik managed to preserve its beautiful Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque churches, monasteries, palaces and fountains.
The old town was completed in the 13th century and remains virtually unchanged to the present day. Tall ramparts surround it and there are only two entrances to the old town which lead to the Stradun, the city's promenade. One of the greatest pleasures for many visitors is to have a drink in one of the nearby cafes and watch the world go by, whilst they themselves are being watched by the city patron, St. Blaise.

TROGIR (70 km)
Trogir , picturesque little town some 70 km northly from Baska Voda, was founded by Greek colonists from the Island of Vis in the 3rd century BC. On this Antique matrix lies the historical core of Trogir, which is the best-preserved Romanesque-Gothic complex not only on the Adriatic but in all of Central Europe. Trogir's mediaeval core, surrounded by walls, comprises a preserved castle and tower and a series of dwellings and palaces from the Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque periods. Trogir's grandest building is the church of St. Lawrence, whose main west portal is a masterpiece by Radovan, and the most significant work of the Romanesque-Gothic style in the country.

BRAC ISLAND, BOL (15 km,
The island of Brac is the third largest island of Croatia. Its precipitous southern coastline rises up to 778m above the sea level at Vidova gora, the highest peak of all the Croatian islands.
With it's unspoiled nature, beautiful beaches, cultural and historycal attractions, and well developed tourist and sport offers, Island Brac is one of the best known tourist destinations in Croatia.
Bol, little town located on the south coast of the island is well known for the most attractive beach on the Adriatic coast: Zlatni rat (The Golden Horn – spectacular 400m long pebble peninsula stretching into the sea).
In the summer Zlatni Rat gets crowded with sunbathers from all over the world and offers a lot of entertainment and activities, wind surfing, jet-skiing, water skiing…
